HEALING WINGS

Designed a Pediatric Unit known as "Healing Wings" for the Baton Rouge General Pediatric Center

at Mid City. The client expressed specific needs for the design including adding a play area and giving the

unit an identity for children to feel more comfortable. The design inspiration came from a bird flock. Birds fly together as one family unit just as this pediatric unit works as one unit to help children. The design concept focuses on Louisiana; Birds of Louisiana transformed into Origami birds for children to relate; Mississippi river is a big attraction in Louisiana - created to make the environment more relatable so that the unit would feel like home rather then a hospital setting. Pop up card was made to give to a sick child in the hospital unit. Renders were developed through the program SketchUp and edited in Photoshop.

Program:

Play Area - Designed to be off of the main corridor for children to immediately see toys and feel welcome

Family Lounge - Provides a space that the families of the patients can go to get some alone time or have a warm meal

Patient Room - Designed to contain a pop of color to create a welcoming environment, lounge sofa is provided in each room to provide a family member a place to sleep

Axonometric - Mississippi river illusion is throughout the main corridors by terrazzo flooring, origami birds are hung around the main entrances leading into the patient rooms area organized to resemble the "V" shape bird flock
